01
This project was developed as my Tripoli Level 2 high-power rocketry certification vehicle. I took the rocket through the complete engineering process from preliminary sizing and simulation through detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and flight.
The vehicle incorporated a redundant dual-deployment recovery system and custom avionics bay while being designed around stability, structural, recovery, and flight-performance requirements.

OpenRocket simulations were used to evaluate vehicle stability, predicted flight performance, and component placement before manufacturing. CAD was then used to develop the vehicle configuration and avionics hardware.

Hand calculations were used alongside simulation to evaluate aerodynamic performance, structural margins, and recovery loads. Analysis included vehicle stability, maximum dynamic pressure, fin flutter, parachute snatch forces, and black-powder ejection charge sizing.

As-Built Avionics Bay
Designed the avionics bay around two Eggtimer Quark flight computers to provide redundant electronic deployment capability throughout flight.
Configured the recovery system to deploy a drogue parachute at apogee followed by the main parachute at 800 ft, reducing descent speed for final recovery.
Verified deployment electronics, continuity, and black-powder charge sizing through ground testing before flight.
Level 2 Certification Flight
The vehicle successfully flew to an apogee of 2,470 ft, completed both recovery events, and was recovered intact. The flight resulted in successful Tripoli Level 2 high-power rocketry certification.
